Dreadful Nights

When you cry yourself to sleep,
The world is wrapped in silence.
The stillness only speaks
To your overwhelming darkness.

When you cry yourself to sleep,
And no one stays to hear,
The loneliness can overtake
The good memories you hold dear.

When you cry yourself to sleep,
Your sorrow knows no bounds.
The pain cannot be stopped
And the mourning is profound.

When you cry yourself to sleep,
The daytime feels less bright.
You act as if it’s nothing,
But you dread another night.

I don’t often write poetry, but this one came to me as I reflected on the days following Dominic’s birth.

“And no one stays to hear” , haunts me to the core. You are a poet!
